There are currently three basic processes used by  the packaging industry for applying wax: 1) coating, 2) laminating and, 3) impregnating. The coating process places wax on the surface of a packaging material. Laminating applies wax in between the two materials. And, impregnating causes the wax to be driven in to a packaging material. Waxes are used in everyday paper products. These waxes are designed to impart properties such as gloss, freshness, and moisture, grease barriers.
